Appeals

One of our firm’s specialized areas of civil practice is appellate work.  Jim Scarbrough and Jim DeMay regularly represent the firm’s clients on appeal to the North Carolina Court of Appeals and North Carolina Supreme Court.  Our expertise in appellate practice and knowledge of the highly-technical appellate rules provides us an advantage against our adversaries who often have little or no experience in appellate practice.  Our firm will have a number of appeals pending at any given time and will often take over cases from other attorneys after the trial level.

Both Jim Scarbrough and Jim DeMay have experience clerking for judges and understand what the appellate court is looking for while preparing brief or making oral arguments.  Jim Scarbrough served as law clerk for former North Carolina Court of Appeals Judge Robert M. Martin and assisted in preparing approximately 100 appellate opinions.  Jim DeMay has experience clerking for U.S. Magistrate Judge James S. Gallas were he was responsible for drafting Magistrate Reports and Recommendations

If you are in need of an experienced appellate attorney, please call us at (704) 788-3211.
